A little bit of
history...
Originally, MacHowie Transport was named MacBurnie International.
That changed in 1992 when a new company was set-up to fill the need
of a large logistics contract with Stewart Milne Timber Systems. The
contract expired in 2009 but the name has stuck!
A family business, MacBurnie was set up way back in 1983 by Gavin
MacBurnie with the purchase of a single vehicle (Volvo F10 - 278hp).
His brother Dougal joined two years later with a second vehicle
(Volvo F12 - 305hp). Working mainly in the UK with occasional trips to
Spain and Germany, the business grew steadily. During the next 10
years they built up a fleet of 14 Scania Tractor Units mostly used
with Tilts, Euroliners and Fridge trailers covering all of Europe,
Greece, Poland, Hungary and parts of Scandinavia, each vehicle
covering approximately 160.000km per annum. Over the next five years
they purchased some 16 DAF's and 4 Volvo's.
In 1992 after winning a contract with Stewart Milne Timber Systems,
MacHowie Transport Ltd. was formed.. During the period up to 2009
we transported Timber Framed Buildings and materials all over the UK
again the contract was initially serviced with 12 Daf FTG XF95's and
a fleet of 32 Flat Trailers and updated after 4 years with 10 new
Daf FTG XF 105 tractor units.
The rest, as they
say is the future...
